Pure, Natural, Yours — Our Organic Rubber Rattlers & Teethers, Explained

What goes into every little toy that goes into little hands — and why it matters to us as much as it does to you.

There is a moment that happens with almost every parent we hear from. It is the moment they pick up a Tikiri toy for the first time — feel the weight of it, the give of it, the warmth it takes on in their hand — and ask: what is this made of?

We love that question. It is exactly the question we built this brand to answer.

At Tikiri Toys, we believe that the first toys a child holds should be as pure as the world we hope to give them. That is why every rattle, every teether, every bath toy in our collection is made from 100% certified organic natural rubber — sustainably harvested, lovingly handcrafted in Sri Lanka, and held to some of the most rigorous safety standards in the world.

Here is everything behind that promise.

What We Mean When We Say 'Natural Rubber'

Not all rubber is the same. Most of the rubber you encounter in everyday baby products is synthetic — made from petroleum, shaped with chemical plasticizers and stabilizers, and treated with finishes that make it look and feel soft. It is functional. But it is not natural.

Our rubber is different. It begins as latex — the milky sap of the Hevea brasiliensis tree, the rubber tree — tapped gently from living trees in certified organic plantations. This latex is then molded, cured, and shaped into the toys your little ones will carry everywhere. No petroleum derivatives. No synthetic softeners. No shortcuts.

The result is a material that is biodegradable, non-toxic, and as close to nature as a toy can be. It has a natural warmth and flexibility that synthetic rubber simply cannot replicate — and which babies, instinctively, seem to love.

We are proud to be the first and only company in the world to produce certified organic rubber baby toys. That is not just a claim. It is 30 years of commitment.

The Certifications Behind Every Toy

We know that trust is earned, not declared. So rather than ask you to take our word for it, we submit our toys and our manufacturing processes to the scrutiny of the world's most respected independent certifying bodies — every single year.

GOLS — Global Organic Latex Standard

GOLS is the gold standard for organic rubber certification. To qualify, a product must be made from more than 95% certified organic raw material, pass stringent emission and substance testing, and be traceable — through transaction certificates — all the way from the rubber plantation to the toy in your child's hands. Every Tikiri rubber toy carries GOLS certification.

GOTS — Global Organic Textile Standard

GOTS is internationally recognized as one of the most demanding textile certifications in the world — covering not just the organic origin of materials, but every step of the manufacturing process. It limits the use of toxic dyes, bleaches, and chemical treatments. The hand-painted details on our toys meet this standard.

OCS — Organic Content Standard

The OCS independently verifies the presence of certified organic material in our finished products, and traces that material through every link in the supply chain. It is another layer of assurance that what is on the label is in the toy.

Control Union Certification

As a Control Union certified producer of organic toys (Scope Certification Number CU 809381), our parent company DSL Toys undergoes a full inspection every year to renew this accreditation. Every shipment of Tikiri organic toys arrives with a transaction certificate issued after inspection. Accountability at every stage is something we take seriously.

SEDEX & BSCI — Because Our People Matter Too

Our SEDEX and BSCI certifications speak to the human side of how our toys are made. These internationally recognized frameworks audit our supply chain for worker welfare, fair wages, safe conditions, and ethical practices. We have over 1,000 employees at our Biyagama facility in Sri Lanka. We pay well for their extraordinary craftsmanship, and we work hard to create an environment that matches the pride they put into every toy they shape and paint. Responsible manufacturing is not a footnote for us. It is foundational.

Our Rattlers — A Gentle Sound, A World of Wonder

A rattle is often a baby's very first introduction to cause and effect — the magical discovery that what they do with their hands can change the world around them. We take that moment seriously.

Our organic natural rubber rattlers are designed to delight without overwhelming. The enclosed rattle produces a gentle, soothing sound when shaken — not the sharp plastic clatter of conventional rattles, but something softer, more musical, more calming. Tiny hands can grip the ergonomic forms easily from the earliest months. And when those tiny hands inevitably bring the toy toward tiny gums — which they always do — the soft, pure natural rubber is exactly where we want it to be.

Each rattler is also a teether and a bath toy. The same Giraffe that entertains on a playmat floats happily in the bath. The same Tara the Duck that soothes teething gums also makes the gentlest splash. Three-in-one is not a marketing phrase for us. It is simply what thoughtful design looks like.

Our rattler collection spans the full breadth of the animal kingdom — and then some:

Most rattlers are priced at $21. Our larger novelty characters with additional features start at $26.

Our Teethers — Soothing, Safe, and Gentle on Every Gum

Teething is one of the most tender passages of early childhood — for babies and parents alike. What your little one reaches for during this time matters enormously. We designed our teethers knowing that.

Pure natural rubber has a quality that no synthetic material can fully match: it yields. It gives just enough under pressure. It does not feel jarring against sensitive gums the way harder materials can. And because it is 100% natural and free from every synthetic additive — no BPA, no phthalates, no PVC — you can let your baby chew with complete confidence.

Our teether collection includes some of our most beloved designs:

  • Havah the Bunny Organic Natural Rubber Teether ($18) — Soft, beautifully shaped, easy for the smallest hands to hold
  • Alvin the Elephant Organic Natural Rubber Teether ($18) — A Meiya & Alvin classic, with gentle surface textures for gum relief
  • Meiya the Mouse All-Rubber Squeaker Toy ($26) — Rattles, teethes, and squeaks; a three-sense delight
  • Gemba the Frog & Tara the Duck ($21 each) — Our most-traveled companions, equally at home in a nursery or a diaper bag

Every teether in our collection is ergonomically shaped so tiny hands can maintain a comfortable grip independently — because that first taste of doing something on their own is worth designing for.

Our Bath Toys — Mold-Free, Worry-Free, Joyful

Bath time is one of the most beautiful sensory experiences of early childhood. It should be full of splashing and laughter and discovery — not worry about what is growing inside the toys.

We designed our bath toys with hygiene as a core principle, not an afterthought. Our toys are fully sealed — no squeeze holes, no hollow cavities where water can pool unseen. This, combined with the natural properties of organic rubber, means no hidden mold. What you see is exactly what it is: a pure, safe, cleanable toy that loves the water as much as your baby does.

Our bath toys float. They are soft enough to be squeezed and squashed with joyful little fists. They glow in gentle colors hand-painted by our artisans in Sri Lanka. And because every Tikiri rubber toy is a rattle, a teether, and a bath toy in one, the beloved companion from the playmat comes right into the tub without missing a beat.

Our Marshmallow Soft collection offers an especially gentle texture — the softest rubber we make — perfect for newborns and babies in the earliest months of water exploration.

Handcrafted in Sri Lanka — With Love, Since 1991

Sri Lanka is more than where we are made. It is who we are.

Our home is a tropical island in the Indian Ocean with a heritage stretching back over 3,000 years — a culture shaped by deep reverence for nature, for craft, and for community. That spirit lives in every toy we make. Our artisans hand-shape and hand-paint each piece. Details are finished by human eyes, human hands, human care. No automated line. No shortcuts.

We have been crafting baby toys since 1991. Tikiri as a brand — whose name means 'teeny tiny' in Sinhala — was born from that legacy in 2013, with a single purpose: to bring the safest, most natural, most lovingly made toys in the world to the children who deserve them most.

We are honoured to be the first and only company in Sri Lanka to produce organic soft toys, and the first in the world to craft certified organic rubber toys for babies. That is a distinction we hold with enormous pride — and with the responsibility it deserves.

What We Believe

We believe childhood should be filled with wonder. That the toys a baby reaches for in those first months — the ones they shake, gnaw, splash, and carry everywhere — should be as honest and pure as the love that surrounds them.

We believe in slowing things down. In choosing real materials over convenient ones. In paying our people fairly and treating our planet gently. In building toys not just for this baby, but for the world that baby will grow up to inherit.

Every Tikiri rattle. Every Tikiri teether. Every little organic rubber animal that finds its way into a tiny hand — carries all of that with it.

We are committed in heart and mind to deliver the absolute best product that both children and parents will love. That has been true since 1991. It will always be true.
